PT Mangole Timber Producers Becomes Indonesia’s Second SBP-certified Biomass Producer

Jakarta (20/4) — PT Mangole Timber Producers (MTP) recently welcomed a visit from Control Union Indonesia for the formal handover of its Sustainable Biomass Program (SBP) certificate. MTP’s wood pellet production facility in North Maluku was officially certified in January 2026, making the company the second biomass producer in Indonesia to achieve SBP certification. The certification followed a comprehensive audit conducted by Control Union Indonesia in October 2025.

SBP is an internationally recognized certification system designed to ensure sustainable production of woody biomass throughout the entire supply chain. The audit process evaluates not only the biomass producer, but also the supply base where feedstocks or raw materials are cultivated and harvested. MTP’s wood pellets carry an SBP claim, giving assurance that we source our materials legally and sustainably. The biomass is also supported by verified energy and carbon data throughout the supply chain, allowing carbon emissions calculations to be made.

Biomass carrying an SBP claim is accompanied by verified energy and carbon data associated with every stage of the supply chain, enabling end users—such as power utilities—to calculate carbon emissions using established carbon accounting methodologies.

Our SBP certification scope is as follows:

  • SBP Standard 1: Feedstock Compliance, Version 2.0, 10 May 2023
  • SBP Standard 2: Feedstock Verification, Version 2.0, 10 May 2023
  • SBP Standard 4: Chain of Custody, Version 2.0, 10 May 2023
  • SBP Standard 5: Collection and Communication of Data, Version 2.0, 10 May 2023
  • Instruction Document 5E: Collection and Communication of Energy and Carbon data, Version 2.1, 27 November 2023
  • Instruction Document EU RED: Bridging Requirements for Meeting the Renewable Energy Directive EU/2023/2413, Version 2.0, 16 May 2025
